At Suffolks, we strive to provide a knowledge rich curriculum with historical skills and vocabulary embedded throughout.  We endeavour to encourage the children's future aspirations by creating a history curriculum that is engaging, interesting and develops a sense of wonder.  

Children at Suffolks are taught to develop a secure understanding of chronology; a range and depth of historical knowledge; how to think critically; weigh evidence through a wide range of sources and to develop their own perspectives and judgements about history.

In order for children to create secure mental models in History, we are developing the use of key historical concepts.  Our key concepts are: Lifestyles, Legacy, Conflict and Continuity and Change. 

We have developed long term overviews, a progression of skills and medium term plans which teachers use to ensure that their sequence of lessons build on prior learning and pave the way for future learning.  

Our topics are informed by the National Curriculum as well as developed in line to the children's own interests.  By the time children leave Suffolks, they will have a secure and coherent understanding of British history pre-1066AD; an overview of the ancient world with a focus on Egypt, Greece and Rome; how World War 2 was a significant turning point in British history as well as learning about Enfield's rich and diverse local history.

We believe that the history curriculum should celebrate the diverse nature of our community and that the children should see themselves in our curriculum throughout their time with us.  We therefore celebrate 'Making a Difference' week each year which is where we look at the diverse history and the diverse community of Enfield.

Suffolks itself has a very interesting history.  From a fire in the 70s to a record of punishment - Suffolks has seen a lot of change!
