Geography

At Suffolks primary school, we strive to deliver a knowledge and vocabulary rich curriculum with core geography skills weaved throughout.

We want our geography curriculum to be relevant and engaging for all and to inspire and enthuse children to investigate, problem solve and most importantly, wonder.

By the end of their primary experience, we want children to have a secure knowledge of the world and their place within it. We want the children to understand both natural and human geography and how we, as global citizens, have a duty of responsibility to preserve the beauty of our planet. Our children are taught about the local area and beyond through a range of diverse case studies of the UK, Europe, South America and a further non-European country. Teaching of geography at Suffolks equips pupils with the knowledge about a wide range of diverse places, people and environments.

We enrich our curriculum through local visits as well as having visitors to the school which in turn, allows children to see themselves as talented geographers.

We have developed long term plans, skills progressions and medium term plans for Geography which our teachers use to ensure their sequence of lessons build on prior knowledge and pave the way for future learning.
