Learning to Read

The teaching of reading is intergrated into everything we do!

We promote a love of books through engaging book corners,  talking tablstories, acting out stories, sharing books in small groups and providing a rich learning envionment linked to the study of core books. We also have regular opportunities for children to visit the local library to choose their own books.

Additionally, dedicated phonic sessions are taught every every day from Spring Term in Nursery (Phase 1) and throughout Reception (Phase 2 onwards). We use a mixture of multi-sensory play and the RWI approach to teach letter formation and sounds. In the summer term we introduce the children to DSR (Daily Supported Reading) to develop their reading skills further.
