Big Maths

Every half term children have a maths lesson where they complete class-based investigations.

Investigations are chosen carefully to develop skills students have focused on in the week. For example, if the maths unit has been measures then the investigation will focus on one this area.

The key difference between these sessions and other maths lessons is that investigations are predominately child led and require the children to think creatively about mathematical questions. These are hugely popular with the children and help to develop their independence and creativity as mathematicians and learners, especially developing the all-important skill of making links within their learning.

Each class present their work in a special investigations scrap book which includes photos and comments from the children.
